Organise a fundraiser

Yey! You want to organise your very own fundraiser 😊 Whether you're a first time fundraiser, or an experienced pro, below are some hints and tips to help you on your way.

01

Set up a fundraising page

Setting up a page on JustGiving is a great way to keep your fundraising and donations together in one place. Get started by setting up your page by clicking here.

02

Share your 'why'

Personalising your page by sharing why you're fundraising for It Gets Better UK let's folks connect with you and your fundraiser. You can even add photos and updates as you go to keep everyone up-to-date.

03

Set your target

JustGiving pages with a target on average raise twice as much as those without. Setting a target shows your supporters what you're aiming for, and might make them donate a bit more to help you get there.

04

Share and get social

Sharing your fundraising page as far and wide as you can will increase your chances of hitting that target. You can share your link on WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and BlueSky. We've done a few template Insta stories that you can fill in to get you started, just click here.

05

Saying thank you

Saying a big heartfelt thank you is super important, especially at the moment when personal budgets are so tight. You could send supporters a personal message, tag them in a thank you post, or send them a text - however you do it, tell them exactly what their support means to you.

Need some inspiration?

Don't worry, everyone needs a bit of inspiration now and then, and here are some of our favourite fundraisers:

  • Cake sale/coffee morning - host a cake sale or tea/coffee morning and ask for a donation

  • Sweepstakes - set the price to enter, the winner gets a % of the total, and the rest goes to your fundraising pot

  • Pub quiz - because who doesn't love a quiz, ask for a donation to enter and offer a lil' prize for the winner

  • Give something up - whether it's chocolate, alcohol, or even takeaways, ask for sponsorship to give something up for a month

  • Birthdays - asking for donations on your birthday is a lovely way to support, and perfect for those folks who are hard to buy for

  • Holiday - if you're a boss, why not offer a free day of holiday to your team as a prize if you're fundraising in the office

  • Lives - if you're a gamer, crafter, or have something to say, why not host a live on Twitch or Insta and ask for donations

  • Naughty jar - like the old days, but digital. Make a donation to your page every time you swear, or sneak a bag of crisps from the cupboard right before dinner

  • Office Olympics - oh go on, it's fun, and there's a small part of everyone that would love to win an office chair race

  • Dress down day - because sometimes it's just more comfy to go to school or work in your chill day clothes
