LGBTQ+ Stories of Wales
At It Gets Better UK, we curate a lived-experience story collection by LGBTQ+ people, for LGBTQ+ people - with the aim that anyone looking for community, representation, a friendly face, or a message of hope can find it when they need. Our stories are about the challenges, joys, and hopes that come along with being LGBTQ+ in a queerphobic world, and we capture messages of hope for those who need it.

We are putting together a collection of first-person stories and reflections about LGBTQ+ life in Wales. Whether you’re Welsh, have moved to Wales, or have lived in Wales previously; whether you’re out or not; we want to hear from you.
What are we looking for?
We’re accepting contributions that are written or filmed by you, the creator, or told to our volunteers through an interview.

Submissions are welcome in English and Welsh, and the final collection will be available in both languages – please feel free to submit in both languages if you prefer to translate your own work.

Find inspiration in our story collection: our blog, podcast , zine, videos, and social media.

How to submit
Submit a video:
Using your own phone or camera, find a quiet spot where you can speak directly to the camera, and use our story guidance (English and Welsh) to help guide what you choose to share.

Submit writing:
Creative writing, like in our zine, or a personal reflection, like in our blog.

Sign up for an interview:
Contact us and we'll arrange a call where one of our volunteer team will ask you some questions about your experiences as an LGBT+ person in Wales. We’ll arrange questions in advance and you’ll get to review everything before it’s finalised. We hope to be able to offer interviews in Welsh: if you would prefer this, please tell us.

Please submit your contribution or request for an interview via the link below, or email miriam@itgetsbetter.org.uk.
Please attach a brief bio of yourself to be shared publicly: name, pronouns, age, location, photo, where else we can find your work if applicable. You’re also welcome to be anonymous, or share just some of this information.
