Bi Visibility: Creatrix Cymraes
Becki Skehel from Cardiff is Creatrix Cymraes - an artist and creative who's also bisexual. She talks about her experience with her own bisexuality, and all its positives.

I was around 10 or 11 when I realised I was bisexual. I was watching a DVD of Charlie's Angels (2000) and had a kind of simultaneous awakening caused by Sam Rockwell and Lucy Liu. I don't remember it ever being much of a burden to me, and I'm not sure that I ever felt the need to "come out" per se. I think I kind of assumed that everyone was attracted to women - why wouldn't they be? Women are gorgeous. I went to a Catholic school and spent most of my time in the performing arts department, so I've naturally gravitated to queer friendship groups because those are my kinds of people! I remember kissing girls and boys at post-show parties and proms; but this was the era of All The Things She Said, so girls kissing girls wasn't really commented on.
I lived my happily bisexual, chaotic life as a teenager and student - I never felt like I had to hide who I was, nor prove myself to anyone. I met my now-husband when I was 20, and although we are a hetero-passing couple to the world, I know that our relationship does nothing to erase my queerness.
I've been an artist since I became too disabled to continue my marketing career during the pandemic, and again I find myself in warm, inclusive communities alongside queer folk of all stripes. I've made a few artworks inspired by my experience as a bi woman with a husband, including Still Bi (2023) and my Bi-Vis Vest (2024). I hope my story can be an example that owning your queer identity and having pride in who you are doesn't necessarily lead to struggle and hardship. My life is better because I'm queer!
